Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.<\/i>\u201d (1 Corinthians 10:11\u201312)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0069.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-897\" src=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0069-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0069\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0069-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0069-764x1024.jpg 764w, https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0069-624x835.jpg 624w, https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0069.jpg 1936w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a>Recently, while reading through the Bible in a year, my plan covered the time of the kings of Judah and Israel.\u00a0 After the first three kings of Israel, the kingdom divided in\u00a0 931 B.C.\u00a0 Two of those three Kings did not end well including Solomon!\u00a0 And there are some good lessons to be learned therein. But I was thinking of the kings of Judah.<\/p>\n<p>I remembered that in the ten northern tribes of Israel there were no good kings. There were nineteen kings and all were evil!\u00a0 They with their tribes were judged by the LORD and carried away into captivity by Assyria in 722 B.C.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6426.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-898\" src=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6426-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6426\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6426-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6426-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6426-624x832.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>In Judah\u00a0 (the name given the southern kingdom, the tribes Judah and Benjamin), there were twenty kings and eight did \u201cwhat is right before God.\u201d\u00a0 I remembered that, and a lot about their lives. But what I didn\u2019t remember was that they didn\u2019t finish well!<\/p>\n<p>What a shame! To have lived your life mostly right before God, experiencing his protection and provision, and yet in your later years finish poorly, away from God and His purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t let this happen to you! Don\u2019t let it happen to me! Let\u2019s purpose together not to let it happen to each other, to the best of our ability.\u00a0 I propose we look at these kings of Judah and learn from their mistakes.\u00a0 We can look at their successes too! That\u2019s really what gives light to their mistakes. Their lives are given to us for an example as the above Scripture tells us. Their lives are an open book. Are you as shocked as I was? Look them up. Read and learn, asking the Spirit to be your guide to insight, wisdom, and obedience. You\u2019ll be blessed by wisdom from the LORD. Wisdom to help you in your journey, and to finish well.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll give you a little insight into Asa\u2019s history here, but the rest are just as fascinating and instructive.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_900\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6504.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-900\" class=\"wp-image-900 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6504-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6504\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6504-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6504-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6504-624x467.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-900\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">With Friends In Community<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201c<i>He [Asa] gathered all Judah and Benjamin and those from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who resided with them, for many defected to him from Israel when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.<\/i>\u201d (2 Chronicles 15:9) \u201c<i>And there was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa\u2019s reign.<\/i>\u201d (2 Chronicles 15:19)<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<i>At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him, \u201cBecause you have relied on the king of Aram and have not relied on the Lord your God, therefore the army of the king of Aram has escaped out of your hand. \u201cWere not the Ethiopians and the Lubim an immense army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied on the Lord, He delivered them into your hand. \u201cFor the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. You have acted foolishly in this. Indeed, from now on you will surely have wars.\u201d Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in prison, for he was enraged at him for this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time. Now, the acts of Asa from first to last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel. In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa became diseased in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians. So Asa slept with his fathers, having died in the forty-first year of his reign.<\/i>\u201d (2 Chronicles 16:7\u201313)<\/p>\n<p>A forty-one year reign! Mostly good! But it ended like this. Don\u2019t let this happen to you.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6442.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-902\" src=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6442-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6442\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6442-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6442-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/afriendoftheking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_6442-624x467.jpg 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The second king of Israel, David, did finish well! Even though he wasn\u2019t perfect and went through a lot of trials; mostly self inflicted or sin inflicted. The Scripture eventually says of him that he accomplished the purposes of God in his generation.\u00a0 May we give ear to the Scriptures, and our hearts to God, so this may be said about us.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cFor David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, &#8230;<\/i>\u201d (Acts 13:36)<\/p>\n<p>Godspeed on your journey! May the King of Heaven grace you to serve Him all your days.
